Day & Night Blinds, Green Point

Alternating sheer and solid bands that dial privacy against light — the practical answer for a window that faces straight into the block across the road.

The apartment-density answer

Green Point is stacked tight — a lounge window here usually faces another building's windows, not a garden. A day and night blind lets you keep some daylight and some view while cutting the direct sightline in, which a plain sunscreen roller can't do and a full blockout gives up too much for. It's the product we recommend most for street-facing living rooms and kitchens in the newer blocks.

How the bands work

Two layers of fabric run on a continuous loop, alternating sheer and solid bands. Align the bands and light filters through the sheer sections while the solid bands still break the view in; offset them fully and the blind reads as near-solid, close to a blockout roller. You tune it hour by hour rather than choosing one setting for the whole day.

Honest limitations

Even fully offset, a day and night blind isn't true blockout — light seeps at the band edges, so a bedroom that needs proper dark still wants a blockout roller instead, or a second layer behind it. The sheer bands are also more delicate than a solid fabric, so we don't recommend them at reach height in a home with young children or pets. And the fabric is moisture-sensitive, so kitchens near an open window are fine but a steamy en-suite bathroom is not — aluminium venetians handle that better.

Fit

Day and night blinds run on standard roller hardware — chain control with a tensioner, or motorised for a cordless finish, with cassette options to hide the head rail. Inside or outside mount both work; inside mount gives the tidier look most Green Point apartments want against a plastered reveal.
